ISMI-CIE One-Week Workshops

For the last 19 years, ISMI has held Israel learning workshops to inform teachers about Israeli history, society, and politics. Since 2008, The Center for Israel Education (CIE), a local non-profit, has shared the mantle of our workshops. Our experience over the last nineteen years (with more than 3,500 teachers) indicates that better informed teachers are better educators. Teachers who have participated in our workshops have imparted learning to tens of thousands of their their students. Our week-long workshops have been unanimously praised as "the best educational experience" enjoyed during a career! We link world renowned scholars with curriculum specialists from the United States and Israel to fashion a wonderful learning environment.

During the workshop, teachers encounter new content material, create curricula, and review and learn new teaching strategies. By the end of the workshop, teachers are formed into teaching cohorts and have established exclusive internet linkages for sharing contemporary and future best practices. Teachers return to their schools with a substantial collection of media material, visual arts, and resource information. From what we have learned from past workshops, teachers develop approximately four to six weeks (20 to 30 days) of new curricula for their students.

Requirements: We work with teachers (grades 5-12) to augment teaching skills. We select teachers who can demonstrate previous or subsequent longevity at their school, commitment to teaching in depth about modern Israel, and willingness to share their acquired information with colleagues and peers.
